About Us

Alexander D. Muto, Founder & CEO

Alexander is a social entrepreneur who builds businesses designed to increase the happiness and success of people. His journey started in elementary school in Hawaii where he was bullied for his ADHD, dyslexia and being caucasian in a primarily Asian/Hawaiian community. From these challenges, he learned how to lead and influence people, and the importance of a person’s belief system on the quality of their life. This drove him to create a company in high school at age 16 called the Hawaii Leaders Core and a sister non-profit 501(c)3 company called Ignite A Life. The Hawaii Leaders Core is a youth organization dedicated to teaching middle and high school students leadership skills, emotional intelligence, relationship mastery, personal finances, and personal development. In 2014, they raised over $60,000 and sent 40 Hawaii youth to the Global Youth Leadership Summit hosted by the Anthony Robbins Foundation in San Diego. Since then they have created over 185 life changing opportunities for students and raised over $230,000. They run a year round organization for youth, sponsor trips for students to attend leadership events around the world, and host their own leadership training seminars throughout the year.

Robin Muto, Director & CFO

In 1996, Robin and her husband, James, moved to Maui to set up his Cardiology medical practice. Maui is a very special place for Robin, since once she arrived to Maui, she quickly became pregnant, after trying unsuccessfully for 5 years on the mainland. Robin and James now have two amazing sons, Alexander and Nathaniel.
Robin values family, learning and contribution above all. As her boys were growing up, she always made it a priority to spend lots of time with them and their friends. She ran basketball camps and a local team, soccer camps, and an 8 week watersports camp with stand-up paddling, surfing, and outrigger canoe paddling.
In 2013, Robin sent Alexander to the Anthony Robbins Foundation Global Youth Leadership Summit (GYLS), in San Diego. Upon his return, Alexander, who was 16 at the time, came to Robin with a mission and a vision. He asked Robin if she would help him take all the students at his school to GYLS. The next year they took 40 kids to GYLS. Alexander’s second goal was to create a network of like-minded student leaders on Maui, so Robin and Alexander co-founded the Hawaii Leaders Core (HLC) and their non-profit, Ignite A Life, that supports the HLC.
Robin is vivacious and enthusiastic about life and kids. She easily builds rapport with children and truly values and cherishes the time she spends interacting with them. Robin sees the unique gifts in each child and is passionate about helping them embrace and value themselves for who they are. The kids of the HLC consider Robin their second “Mom” or “Auntie” that they can always turn to for fun and support. She is the chaperone for all the trips and has been a coach for the Anthony Robbins Foundation Global Youth Leadership Summit(GYLS), since 2014.
Robin works closely with the students of the HLC to plan trips, set up mentoring programs and organize the monthly HLC meetings. Her next big exciting endeavour with HLC is to host a 5 day leadership event on Maui in June of 2018. Although she has personally traveled to each event with the students and loves taking them abroad, she feels she will be able to support more students and the community of Maui by hosting an event here at home.

Chantal Charbonnier, Director

Chantal has created a life full of enjoyment, fulfillment, and ambition. While attending high school in West Side Maui, Chantal was very active in her community. Chantal was involved with her school’s chapter of National Honor Society, National Art Honor Society, and Interact Club. Amongst the clubs, Chantal also took role as Yearbook Editor for three years, and as a Steersman/Captain for her school’s paddling team. Being in these environments excite Chantal as she is a social-butterfly who lives for fast-paced environments. However, the island’s ambiance has never failed to keep her rooted.

In 2014, Chantal attended her first leadership conference with Hawaii Leaders Core. This is where her passion for improving the quality of her life and those around her began. In 2016, Chantal delivered a talk with TEDxYouth @ Seabury Hall, and earned a full 4-year scholarship to earn her degree. She is currently studying Business Management at Hawaii Pacific University and hopes that her education, along with her work at Hawaii Leaders Core, will create a culture of growth for Hawaii’s youth.
